Act4Mig: Czech and Ukrainian Teams Meet to Advance Course Development

The development of the Act4Mig online course is moving forward at full speed. As the programming and implementation of the course in the Moodle environment continues to make remarkable progress, representatives of the Czech and Ukrainian teams met to coordinate the next steps of the project.

A key topic of the meeting was the upcoming collaboration with the Lviv National Academy of Arts, whose artists and students will contribute to the course by creating original visual artworks for the introductory sections of the modules. This cooperation will add a unique artistic dimension to the learning experience and help create an engaging and inspiring environment for future participants.

We are excited about this interdisciplinary partnership and cannot wait to see the final results. Stay tuned for more updates as the Act4Mig course continues to take shape!

Summer break has already started in some of our partner countries (Czechia, Poland, and Ukraine), but our work continues! 🌍💻

Our international team is still meeting regularly and working together on the development of the ACT4MIG online course. Step by step, we are refining the content, sharing ideas, and moving closer to the final version.

This was the central question addressed by Kristina Kocyba (TU Dresden) and Shaden Sabouni (Fulda University of Applied Sciences) at yesterday's forum hosted by the Saxon State Office for Schools and Education (LaSuB).

Act4Mig at the Conference in Dublin

The #Act4Mig project was presented at the 32nd International Conference of Europeanists at University College Dublin. Researchers from Ukraine, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic discussed how schools have responded to forced migration four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Drawing on interviews with teachers, the panel highlighted both the crucial role of educators in supporting inclusion and the growing challenges of professional fatigue and burnout. The comparison revealed significant differences in national approaches while underlining the importance of teachers as key agents of educational change. The discussion also raised broader questions about how education systems can sustainably adapt to migration and social transformation.

Article in the DAAD newsletter

We are proud that our project Act4Mig – A Course for Teachers on Forced Migration has recently been presented by DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service as an example of successful Erasmus+ cooperation projects involving Ukrainian participation.

The project was featured in a DAAD publication highlighting innovative international initiatives responding to current educational and societal challenges. Act4Mig focuses on supporting teachers and schools in working with forced migration, multilingual classrooms, and inclusive educational practices across Europe.

Conference in Dublin

Our team will participate in the 2026 Conference of the Council for European Studies at University College Dublin (16–18 June 2026).

We will present our panel, “From Solidarity to Systemic Change: Educational Policy Responses to the War in Ukraine in European Comparison.” In our contribution, we will discuss how European education systems—focusing on Germany, Czechia, Poland, and Ukraine—have responded to the arrival of displaced learners from Ukraine since 2022. The panel will feature presentations by Kate Buchko, Kristina Kocyba, Tereza Švandová, and Paweł Rudnicki.

We look forward to the discussion in Dublin.

This year’s conference at the University of Belgrade offered the Act4Mig project team (coordinated by TU Dresden, University of Wrocław, Masaryk University, and the Ukrainian Catholic University) the opportunity to engage in a research workshop with colleagues, compare national perspectives, and present the first draft of the planned digital course.
